Research Fishing Company Ltd. Lerwick - Shetland, has signed a contract With Vard Group AS (Vard Langsten) for construction of an 80 m x 16.2 m Pelagic Trawler

The ship is of ST-126 design, developed by Skipsteknisk AS in Aalesund in close cooperation with the ship owner. This is vessel no. 3 from Skipsteknisk to the same owner. The first one was built by Slipen Mekaniske in Sandnessjøen in 1997, the second by Flekkefjord Slipp in 2003.

The ship is a modern Pelagic Trawler, where the latest technology is used. This applies to all equipment on board, all winches are electrically powered to reduce oil spills and pollution in the event of leaks. Even the fish pump is electrically operated and is the first of its kind in the world for use within pelagic fishery.

The main engine is based on common rail technology ensuring the lowest possible fuel consumption and lower emissions then before.

Cooling system for fish and associated pumping systems are arranged for rapid and efficient cooling and smooth handling of fish, ensuring premium product quality and with minimum damage to the product.

The ship is also equipped with super modern Vard SEAQ bridge solution based on “big screen” principle (50") and fully integrated monitoring, alarm and automation systems for ship.

The ship inclusive hull will be produced entirely in areas around Langsten and will be delivered and join the Whalsay pelagic fleet in September 2018.
